Plank — the huge new restaurant/bowling alley/beer garden in Oakland’s Jack London Square — made its debut over the weekend.
As previously described, Plank takes the sprawling 50,000 square foot indoor/outdoor space that was previously home to Barnes & Noble. The new owners have completely remodeled the space, activated the outdoor side, and installed a bar, restaurant and host of other amenities:
- 18 bowling lanes ($5.50 per game/per person all day Monday-Thursday and Friday until 5pm; all other times, $45 per lane/per hour; no reservations)
- Three bocce ball lanes ($6 per person/per hour all day Monday-Thursday and Friday until 5pm; all other times, $9 per person/per hour)
- Billiards ($15/hour)
- video games,
- a 325-seat outdoor beer garden
- live music.
It’s like Dave & Buster’s on steroids; can it be the anchor tenant that Jack London Square has been coveting?
The menus by chef Jason Moniz is culturally wide-ranging (char siu pork tacos, ramen, udon), but include standard bar fare like wings, burgers and pizza. The menus can be viewed on the Plank website; do note that there are separate menus for the indoor and outdoor areas.
Open daily 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
For what it’s worth, Yelpers aren’t very happy about the opening weekend. Have you been to Plank yet? Share your thoughts in the comments.
